Green Day

This week when I spent the day with my grandson, it was one of curly haired simplicity.

Along with our usual rituals of toasting sunflower seeds (he can’t get enough of their crunchy deliciousness), throwing a handful of felted dryer balls against the walls of my meditation room (this is usually worth a half hour of laughter), we discovered a new fascination of dipping our fingers into the bubbling water in the fountain on my deck and “painting” the rocks below.

Spending the day with my grandson is always an antidote to stress.

So too is the simplicity of a walk in the spring green of the woods.

A young mother I was talking to recently told me how her mother always used to let her stay home from school on “green day”, the one day in spring when the leaves seem to burst forth in unison.

Have you noticed that day? I mean REALLY taken the time to notice?

She said that she has carried on with that ritual with her children.

This week on a walk in the woods, I noticed…

The green above me…

The green below me…

The green in the distance…

The green of the unfurling fern…

The green of the moss…

The green of the trillium leaves…

It’s spring. Take some time to celebrate. Go for a walk and enjoy the nourishment of green.
