“I know this rose will open. I know my fear will burn away. I know my soul will unfurl its wings. I know this rose will open.” (Mary E. Grigolia)
The words to this song (that my choir sang this spring) became my mantra for the rose plant on my front porch after a squirrel ate two tender buds earlier in the summer. I had put the potted plant that I received for Mother’s Day on my back deck in the shade to protect it from too much sun and too little water when I went away for a long weekend. When I returned I was looking forward to being greeted by buds that had blossomed into vibrant red roses but instead they were clipped off and nowhere to be found. I could only assume that one of our resident squirrels had consumed them for its breakfast. I was disappointed as I returned the plant to the front porch and back into its place in the sun. A few weeks later, the sun awakened yet another bud and as my mantra affirmed, this morning the rose opened wide and glorious.
Sometimes we try to protect ourselves or avoid what we perceive to be threatening situations. Our fear gets in the way and instead of being protected we never get the chance to blossom. Is it time for you to step out into the sun? I’ll meet you there.

You are blossoming in the sun.
Thank you, Deb. I am enjoying the feeling of the sun on my face.
