Spring Ritual

Wednesday was the first day of spring! Sweet spring! I think it is the season that I welcome the most.

I went to the florist and purchased a small bouquet of yellow daffodils and when I got home I cut the bottom of the stems and put them in a vase with fresh water.

I placed the vase on my kitchen table and then I sat for a while and gazed at them. Daffodils are so cheery.

I couldn’t help but notice the gently falling snow through the window. But I also noticed the robin that was perched in my neighbour’s tree and I listened to the cardinals persistent spring song.

Choosing to celebrate the first day of spring with such a simple ritual brought a smile to my face and satisfaction to my heart.

Are there some daffodils awaiting your gaze?

Happy spring!

One year old baby Pia came to her first Spring Solstice celebration. She came in carrying pussy-willows in her tiny, chubby hands. Those pussy willows now share the daffodil, iris, and tulip bouquet that we gathered around on the Vernal Equinox. I’ll always remember how little Pia watched us all so closely and listened so carefully as we spoke of the return of the light.

I agree, Rachael, the images we create during ritual nourish us with their lasting impression. Thank you for ‘painting’ yours so beautifully for all of us to enjoy!
