Summer Practice

When I sit on my back deck drinking a cold glass of lemonade I find myself saying, “This is Summer”. When I go for a swim at my favourite swimming hole, I float on my back and look up at the blue sky I whisper to myself, “This is Summer”. When I sit on my front porch watching the lightening and listening to the claps of thunder I proclaim to my son Gabe and my partner, Scott, “This is Summer!”

And now they’ve started saying it back to me when we’re eating green beans and corn on the cob or walking downtown in the calm of the evening or when the cicadas sing especially loud.

It’s been 2 months since I held workshops and created a video about the practice I created to drink in the deliciousness of summer. Just to remind you, the practice is called “This is Summer!” and it’s so, so simple. You say “This is Summer!” whenever you realize that you are experiencing something about summer that you want to take in more fully. You stop and notice and become fully present.

This practice will ensure that you become saturated with the beauty of this season so that when September arrives you can say without a doubt that you experienced fully the beloved season of summer.

I wanted to check in to see how this practice is going for you. So many people have commented about their enjoyment of using the practice. It is a thrill when I run into someone on the street who has attended my workshops or read my blog and they get a big smile on their face and look into the sky and say “This is Summer!”

There is still time for you to try it out. There is still plenty of summer to savour. Take a look at my video and leave a comment on my blog about your experience of ‘This is Summer!”

I read a post recently that said something like, “the memories of summer last all year long”. They are certainly worth storing up if you live in a climate with a long winter!
