Spring Wisdom

I am spending the week working with my mentor in Asheville, North Carolina, where it is my good fortune to find spring in full expression. The deliciously warm air has coaxed the trees into pink and white blossom. Today at lunchtime as I was walking I came upon this camellia and its beauty took my breath away.

Finding myself surrounded by spring is certainly a tonic after a long Ontario winter. What pleasure!

This morning my mentor invited us to begin our day by taking a 15 minute silent walk. It was a lovely experience being in the quiet company of 60 other women as we fanned out into the neighbourhood. Each of us returned inspired by what we had encountered.

This week I want to remind you of a beautiful practice called ‘Wisdom Walk’. This time with a focus on experiencing spring.

Begin by setting the clear intention to witness spring and receive all of the pleasure of its beauty and any wisdom it has to offer.

Choose a place to take your walk. It could be on the sidewalks right outside your front door or on a trail in the woods or along the shore of a nearby lake or stream.

As you set off on your journey, clear your mind by noticing everything around you. Let your senses come alive and enjoy the heightened sensations. Clear your heart by breathing into it encouraging it gently open to receive.

Be present to all that is.

As you take in the experience of your spring ‘Wisdom Walk’ notice what you are drawn to. Allow any insights to arise.

You might notice a ray of light and experience renewed hope about a challenging situation. Or you might notice the gentle wind and experience the opportunity for a cleansing new beginning.

Bend down and smell the new blossoms, reach out and touch the new leaves, taste the dew and listen to the birdsong.

Look for signs of love and inspiration that seem to be there just for you.

Breathe.

When the time seems right and you’ve come to the end of your walk offer gratitude for all that you have received.

Enjoy the healing qualities of the elixir of your spring ‘Wisdom Walk’.
