Singing Leaf

Nature is my most constant companion. Whenever I am in need of comfort, if I find my way to nature, I find solace.

Nature reminds me that I am enough. In fact nature tells me that I am way more than enough.

Nature talks to me through its perfectly imperfect beauty. My walk past a muddy stone, a rotting log, a rumpled leaf, becomes a chorus of “All Is Well“.

Go to nature and be comforted.

Here is a beautiful poem by Mary Oliver that I heard for the first time last week. The person who shared it had memorized it and she recited it aloud. I will offer it to you in the same way.

What Can I Say by Mary Oliver (Press for Audio)

What can I say that I have not said before?
So I’ll say it again.
The leaf has a song in it.
Stone is the face of patience.
Inside the river there is an unfinishable story
and you are somewhere in it
and it will never end until all ends.
Take your busy heart to the art museum and the
chamber of commerce
but take it also to the forest.
The song you heard singing in the leaf when you
were a child
is singing still.
I am of years lived, so far, seventy-four,
and the leaf is singing still.

I enjoyed your most recent blog on Nature.
Being in the forest has always been calming and grounding for me.
Here is a quote I like:
I believe in God , only I spell it Nature. Frank Lloyd Wright

Thanks for sharing this lovely quote, Sharon! I agree. It’s easy to feel the presence of something greater than us while in the company of nature. A walk in the woods, by a stream or along the beach is always nourishing.
