A Few Trees

This summer when I was in Iowa visiting my parents. I got up early each morning to take a walk on my own. I don’t live near my family and although I love them dearly, when my brother, sisters and I meet for a visit, it’s a ‘rich mixture’.

On the first morning I noticed three trees across a field. I love trees and I feel comforted and inspired in their presence.

As I stepped into the cool air beneath them I started to relax. I looked up through their leaves and enjoyed the dappled light.

I made it a practice to visit them each morning. My walks to the trees set a wonderful tone for my day and it helped me be more present for my family.

One day I sat down beneath them and started drawing in the dirt. I used a rock to make a circle and I added some dried berries and a stick. Playing like this lightened my heart. When I looked at the photo after returning home I saw a picture of balance.

All was well in my world when I was under the protection of those trees. They provided my nourishment for the day.

When you’re feeling all topsy turvy, what simple action brings you to a place of balance?

Sometimes all you need is a few trees.
