Pig, Poodles and Paddling

Late yesterday afternoon I was on a farm helping my friend hang a door on his shed. It was dirty work sifting through the piles of boards and pounding back the bent nails.

The sky was both threatening rain and streaming hot sun. At one point a rainbow was illuminated over a wide expanse of rolling green hills.

Being around the farm animals was such a treat. We had to be vigilant about keeping them out of the hay. Picture me shooing the goats and standing arms outstretched in an attempt to keep the inquisitive horses at bay. I was the only thing standing between them and their food!

At one point I noticed a goat staring at what turned out to be a pig running through a field of soybeans in pursuit of two poodle pups. “Here puppies, here pig!”

What fun it was to step outside of my every day life into this dirt filled world with a calamity of critters.

What experiences do you invite into your life to mix things up a little? What benefits do you notice because of your willingness to step outside?

As you read this I will be on a 4-day paddling journey on a lake in Algonquin Park. We will have hiked over our one portage that online was mentioned as “endlessly uphill”. At the end I might be dead tired but I’ll have a smile on my face and a satisfied spirit.

Remember….”This is Summer!”
